Matthew has lived in West Norwood for the past eight years and lives in the ward. A member of the Labour party since he was a teenager, Matthew has been actively involved in campaigning for and delivering better housing and extra primary school places for Norwood. He first became involved with the Labour party in West Norwood by helping to deliver leaflets in support of the Norwood Hall swimming pool & leisure centre, which will be opening in Spring 2014.
Matthew was instrumental in getting Picturehouse cinemas to work with Lambeth council to refurbish and reopen West Norwood Library along with a four screen cinema, cafe and bar in the heart of West Norwood.
Matthew was elected by voters in Gipsy Hill in May 2010 along with fellow Labour councillors Jenny Brathwaite & Niranjan Francis & re-elected in 2014.
“In the last four years we’ve made huge strides in this area – investment has poured in from the council to fix potholes, resurface roads and pavements, expand schools, provide new play equipment in Norwood Park and to deliver big improvements in West Norwood.
“In Upper Norwood we’ve stood with the local community and stopped Tory-run Croydon from selling the Upper Norwood Library and stopped the Tory Mayor, Boris Johnson from closing Gipsy Hill police station. We’ll always stand up for this area and campaign to get things done.”
