Matthew has lived in West Norwood for the past twelve years and lives in the ward. A member of the Labour party since he was a teenager, Matthew has been actively involved in campaigning for and delivering better housing and extra primary school places for Norwood. He first became involved with the Labour party in West Norwood by helping to deliver leaflets in support of the Norwood Hall swimming pool & leisure centre, which opened in Spring 2014.
Matthew was instrumental in getting Picturehouse cinemas to work with Lambeth council to refurbish and reopen West Norwood Library along with a four screen cinema, cafe and bar in the heart of West Norwood.
Matthew was elected by voters in Gipsy Hill in May 2010 & re-elected in 2014 and 2018. Since 2014 he has been a member of the council’s cabinet with responsibility for housing, planning and regeneration.
“Since 2010 we’ve seen huge investment secured in Gipsy Hill. We’ve kept both our libraries open, expanded all three primary schools, brought a cinema and a leisure centre to West Norwood and brought over 2000 local council homes up to the Lambeth Housing Standard. We’ve done this as local councillors, working hard to secure a good deal from the council to improve the local area.“
